Dr Charlotte Burns
PhD (Sheffield)Charlotte Burns is an RCUK academic fellow at the Universersity of Leeds. Her main research interests are the European Parliament, EU Institutions and decision-making procedures and European Environmental policy. She is currently undertaking a joint ESRC research project with Neil Carter at the University of York, titled 'Is the European Parliament an Environmental Champion?'

Dr Sofia Frantzi
BSc(Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), MSc (Southampton), PhD (York)Sofia Frantzi is a researcher at the Institute of Environmental Studies (IVM) of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, working in collaboration with the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (MNP). Her current research focuses on Modelling Governance and Institutions for Global Sustainability (ModelGIGS project). Her doctoral thesis examines the Effectiveness of International Environmental Regimes, using as a case study the Mediterranean Action Plan/Barcelona Convention. Her research interests also include environmental policy, environmental economics and environmental law.

Dr Andrew R. Marshall

Andrew's research interests are ecology and conservation of tropical forests, with focus on primates, duikers, trees, carbon, climate change and restoration ecology in Tanzania. Most recently he has initiated the Udzungwa Forest Project which aims to integrate ecological research with practical conservation in one of the world’s most important areas for conservation of biodiversity, through collaboration with a North Yorkshire zoo (Flamingo Land) and the Worldwide Fund for Nature Tanzania Programme Office. He is also currently a member of two projects looking at tropical forest carbon stocks and the impacts of climate change on species distributions. He has previously been involved in a number of projects in the region, including Ph.D. research into the effects of human disturbance on monkeys and trees. He has also held short-term positions at the British Trust for Ornithology interpreting waterbird declines on UK wetlands, and placements at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (Devon, UK) and at the University of California (Berkeley, USA).

Dr David Ockwell
PhD (York)David is a lecturer in geography, a research fellow at the Sussex Energy Group and an honorary fellow of the Tyndall Centre based at SPRU, University of Sussex. Coming from a strongly inter-disciplinary background that bridges the natural and social sciences, David’s research focuses on transitions to a low carbon economy. His current work includes managing a UK-India collaborative study on low carbon technology transfer to developing countries funded by Defra and the Government of India and ESRC/NERC funded work on discourse analysis of public perceptions of climate change and energy policy.

Mahesh Poudyal

Mahesh is a Research Associate in Environment Department at the University of York, working in EU-funded INNOVKAR project on Shea (Vitellaria paradoxa). He received his first degree from York in Environment, Economics and Ecology, and went on to do a Masters in Natural Resources Management from Simon Fraser University in Canada. He has recently completed his PhD in Environment and Politics from York. His primary research interest lies in understanding the dynamics in human-environment interactions, focussing mainly on environment-poverty nexus in developing countries from socio-economic and institutional perspectives.
